Eat
your way to healthy hair
As with skin and every other aspect of health, a good, balanced diet is essential to grow strong, shiny hair. Make sure you are getting enough protein from meat, fish or vegetable sources. Cut down on fats and fried food, as these can make your hair greasy. Go easy on tea, coffee, chocolate, sweets and sweet fizzy drinks.
Dry or brittle hair can result from lack of Vitamins A, B12, Vitamin C, iron and zinc. Occasionally it's one of the first signs of thyroid problems. Consult your doctor if you're worried this might be the case.
Other tips for a head start
If you bleach, dye, perm or straighten your
hair too often, it takes its toll. Care
should be taken to avoid prolonged skin
contact with these solutions, which can
result in dermatitis, often seen on hairdressers'
hands. Your hair will also become fragile,
but since it continues to grow and shed,
this is not a permanent problem
The same goes for washing and conditioning
dry hair too frequently - it encourages
more dryness and will make it look greasy
quickly.
If you have naturally greasy hair, wash
it often with a mild herbal shampoo such
as seaweed or rosemary.
One application of shampoo should be enough
to do the job, whatever your hair type.
Try to let your hair dry naturally.
Scalp massage encourages circulation.
