Also referred to as herpes
zoster, shingles is a painful and irritating infection caused by
a virus of the nerve endings in the skin. The condition is characterised
by skin blisters, and pain along the nerve involved. The blisters usually
appear on the chest or lower stomach, but can also come up around the
eyes.
Shingles - a re-activation of the herpes virus in those who are partially
immune after a previous bout of chickenpox, usually in childhood - can
be re-triggered during periods of stress or emotional problems.
