Overview
Too much caffeine, nicotine
and alcohol disrupt blood sugar levels and deplete the body of important
mood-enhancing vitamins and minerals. Caffeine in tea, coffee, cola
and chocolate has been implicated in depression. Try to drink alcohol
in moderation.
Alternatively, drink herbal teas, watered down fruit juice or plain
water - aim for two-and-a-half litres per day. A high intake of diuretics
- a substance contained in tea, coffee and, most importantly, alcohol
- can lower the body's potassium levels. When potassium is deficient,
your mood can be negatively affected.
